Email Phishing Attempts

Connecticut residents have received fraudulent emails from "Cumco Federal Credit Union" asking for personal information because there account has been blocked due to suspicious activity. These emails aren't really from the credit union!

If you are ever questioning a phone call, letter or email from the credit union, please call the administrative office to be sure it is real correspondence with the credit union, and not someone phishing for your information.

We will never request account information over email.

Text Messages are NOT used by the Credit Union to contact members

Connecticut residents are receiving text messages with wording similar to "Your Federal Credit Union Credit Card may have been compromised. Please call xxx-xxx-xxxx for more information." This is an attempt to steal people's personal information and is in no way related to the credit union. HPE Credit Union does not use text messages at all for notification purposes.

Notice that the text doesn't even designate a specific credit union name. What we're finding is thieves send out thousands of these messags. All it takes to make them successful is for a few people to respond and give away their personal information.

If you believe the Credit Union is trying to contact you, please call our administrative office and check with our staff. This way, you'll know a phone call is legitimate.

Why Credit Unions Rule

Bank of America Raises Surcharges- Again!

Be careful before you swipe your card! You might want to think twice before using Bank of America automated teller machines. Apparently, the corporation is increasing its surcharge on most ATMs to $3 by August 31, 2007. That’s a stiff price to pay for a $20 withdrawal.

HPE Credit Union urges you to click on the SUM ATM Network link on the right side of our web site, www.hpecu.org. We participate in a program that allows members access to surcharge-free ATMs conveniently close to where they live and work. Please familiarize yourself with surcharge-free ATMs convenient to you and avoid high fees imposed upon credit union members by the big banks.
